What is Asia? Changing Boundaries and Identities in Contemporary Asia

Today, ‘Asia’ has become a key term in academic, economic, and political discussions alike. Despite the frequency of its use, however, the content of the notion of ‘Asia’ is extremely complex and diverse with its borders and definitions constantly renegotiated and reinterpreted. In order to explore such complexity and diversity in the region, GIS Asie, together with its international partners, proposes an initiative “EURASIA” as a means to enhance communication and leverage the expertise among Asian studies researchers in Europe and beyond. As part of the EURASIA initiative, this multilateral and interdisciplinary conference aims to provide an arena to discuss various contemporary issues in Asia with a particular focus on its changing boundaries and identities.
